In recent years, traditional pesticides have become less effective against bed bugs. One of the methods we use at Positive Pest is a proprietary “heat extermination” process. The infested space and surrounding walls are heated to a temperature above 125°F, killing all bed bugs and their eggs.
Killing Bed Bugs with heat extermination is safe for you and the environment because no pesticides or other chemicals are used during the process. This insures that people and pets are safe and is the most effective method of permanent Bed Bug Removal.

Some facts about bed bugs that we feel you should know, include the following: Bed bugs will feed on animal blood and are found in all types of dwellings and transportation vehicles. They live everywhere, not just in your mattress, it's just that they prefer to stay close to their food. They like to hide in small cracks and crevices close to a human environment and they will travel by hiding in suitcases, boxes and shoes. They are a very difficult pest to exterminate without specialized techniques and training.
Bed bugs are small wingless insects that feed solely upon the blood of warm-blooded animals. They and their relatives have evolved as nest parasites. Certain kinds inhabit bird nests and bat roosts and await the return of their hosts; others have adapted well to living in the 'nests' (homes) of people.
Hatchling bed bugs are about the size of a poppy seed, and adults are about 1/4 of an inch in length. From above they are oval in shape, but are flattened from top to bottom.
Their color ranges from nearly white (just after molting) or a light tan to a deep brown or burnt orange. The host’s blood may appear as a dark red or black mass within the bug’s body. Because they never develop wings, bed bugs cannot fly. When disturbed, bed bugs actively seek shelter in dark cracks and crevices. Cast skins of these bugs are sometimes discovered. Although such a finding confirms that bed bugs had been present previously, it does not confirm that any continue to infest the residence. Our exterminating company can survey the premises.
Bed bugs seek out people and animals, generally at night while these hosts are asleep, and painlessly sip a few drops of blood. While feeding, they inject a tiny amount of their saliva into the skin. Repeated exposures to bed bug bites during a period of several weeks or more causes people to become sensitized to the saliva of these bugs; additional bites may then result in mild to intense allergic responses. The skin lesion produced by the bite of a bed bug resembles those caused by many other kinds of blood feeding insects, such as mosquitoes and fleas. The offending insect, therefore, can rarely be identified by the appearance of the bites.
A physician should be consulted to rule out other causes for the lesions and to offer treatment, as needed. The affected person should resist the urge to scratch the bites, as this may intensify the irritation and itching, and may lead to secondary infection. Physicians often treat patients with antihistamines and corticosteroids to reduce allergic reactions and inflammation.
You are not alone and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. Bed bug infestations have increased dramatically in the past few years. They affect all neighborhoods and the causes are related to international travel and the use of exterminating methods that do not work on these bugs. Today, bed bugs are so widespread in New York City, that its not uncommon to find them in the office place and on public transportation. If you found bed bugs, know that you're one of thousands.

The most common first signs are bed bug bites. These bites will leave rashes of different sizes and be itchy. Many doctors will not be able to immediately identify them. If you feel you get bites after waking up in the morning, it is very likely a bed bug bite.
Adult Bed Bugs are about 1/4 of an inch in length, while hatchlings are about the size of a poppy seed. They are oval, flat, and reddish brown. They have piercing mouthparts to draw blood for food. Females lay about 200 eggs which hatch in about 1 to 2 weeks. Newborn bed bugs will be ready to lay their own eggs in 4 to 8 weeks.
Bed bugs can be found often by looking for black stains or smears on beds, which are the bugs’ droppings. Sometimes an engorged bug is accidentally killed or disgorged by accidental crushing, resulting in a visible blood stain.
They hide in cracks and crevices of a room including furniture, moldings, outlets, and carpeting. They generally stay as close to the host (you) as possible.
Bed bugs can go unnoticed for weeks making control more difficult. Often people try to eliminate this pest themselves by using various sprays or "bug bombs". This often makes the problem much worst as the bugs move farther away from the bedding and into the baseboards, carpeting, mouldings, and electrical outlets. They sprays may actually work just fine on the bugs, but the unhatched eggs will remain. Chemical treatments need to be repeated several times with a full preparation regiment that will insure full extermination. Often a mechanical removal of the eggs is also required and that includes freezing or steaming the affected area. When this is combined with chemicals, and careful preparation, then the extermination will most likely be successful.
